FluoroSyl 4500 and 4500Y are perfluoropolyether silanes with great durability, lubricity, and abrasion resistance. When applied on top of anti-reflective and anti-glare (AR) coatings, FluoroSyl provides superhydrophobic, oleophobic, and anti-fingerprint properties. FluoroSyl is recommended for glass and plastic surfaces for fingerprint resistance, stain repellency and easy cleaning.  FluoroSyl 4500Y is recommended when higher finger lubricity is needed. FluoroSyl 4500 and 4500Y is an active ingredient in hydrophobic and oleophobic pills in the ophthalmic consumables market.

Quantity: 100 grams

Form:  Liquid

Concentration:  20% (in fluorosolvent)

Fluorosolvent options:  HFE7200, HFE7100, AE3000, HFE347

Application methods: PVD (or dilute to 0.2% with fluorosolvent and dip or spray)

Curing: Air dry for 24 hours (or bake 100°C for 10 minutes with 50% relative humidity)

Transparent: Yes

Refractive index: 1.3

Density: 1.55 g/ml

Static contact angle to water (2 µl): >100°

Contact angle after 5,000 cotton rubs @ 2.5 g/sq-mm: >95°

Static contact angle to mineral oil (20 µl): >50°

Application notes:  The substrate needs to clean and hydrophilic. Hydrophilic properties of glass and plastic can be optimized by plasma or corona treatment.  Substrates coated for AR properties using silicon dioxide, zirconium dioxide, etc., are great substrate for FluoroSyl.  Apply FluoroSyl by PVD. Allow the FluoroSyl to dry for 2 hours or more. Using a soft cloth wipe off any haze or cloudiness. The substrate should now repel water, oil, fingerprints, etc.  Alternatively, dilute FluoroSyl to 0.2% with fluorosolvent and apply by dipping and spraying.

Caution:  FluoroSyl is a coating for industrial and research use only.  Not for household DIY uses.
