Superhydrophobic Coatings
CytoThane series superhydrophobic coatings reduce signal attenuation caused by rain, ice and snow.
Major Properties of CytoThane Coatings:
-- Reduces rain fade
-- Minimizes signal loss in Ku and Ka bands
-- Causes water droplets to roll off leaving surfaces dry
-- Eliminates water film formation
-- Reduces ice and snow adhesion
-- Available in versions that are near transparent
Major Applications for CytoThane Coatings:
-- Prevent signal loss due to rain, ice and snow on satellite dishes, radomes, and antenna arrays
-- Reduce signal loss due to rain on wind and radiometric sensors
-- Reduce ice and snow accumulation on mid-path passive reflectors and repeaters
-- Protect moisture sensitive telecommunications equipment including circuit boards, motors, switches and connectors
CytoThane-MW is super-hydrophobic coating used on marine and ground-based microwave antenna, radomes and other telecommunications gear for over a decade. CytoThane-MW provides over 150° contact angle performance in extreme sun and rain for over five years. Under heavy rain conditions, Ka band ground stations using CytoThane-MW report rain attenuation (rain fade) losses of only 0.2 dB compared to 10 dB losses for uncoated systems (Hughes Network Systems). MW also reduces snow and ice accumulation under most conditions. CytoThane MW is available in frosty white and in tints of green, blue, tan and grey. For custom tints please contact Cytonix. CytoThane-MW is a single-part, air-cured coating formulated for spray, brush or roll application. The coating is rain resistant after 2-6 hours, substantially cured in 24 hours and is fully cured in 5 to 10 days. Surface temperatures should be between 45 and 85°F during application. One gallon covers 200 to 400 square feet.
CytoThane-MX is durable hydrophobic and oleophobic coating formulated for telecommunications gear when color matching is required. CytoThane-MX provides over 130° water contact angle performance in extreme sun and rain for many years. CytoThane-MX is available in green (# 34094), black (# 17038), white (# 37925), insignia white (# 27875), tan (# 33446), sand (# 33303), cool grey (# 7035), laundry blue (# 2407005) and french grey (# J724). For custom colors please contact Cytonix. CytoThane-MX is a single-part coating formulated for spray application to marine and ground-based microwave antenna, radomes and other telecommunications gear. One gallon covers 200 to 400 square feet.
CytoThane-TS is durable super-hydrophobic coating. CytoThane-TS provides over 150° contact angle performance against water. CytoThane-TS is a two-step formulation for spray application to marine and ground-based microwave antenna and other applications requiring super hydrophobicity. TS can be applied by spray or roll. TS is extremely UV-light resistant withstanding up to 600 mega-joules per meter squared. CytoThane TS is available in multiple frosty colors including white, black, gray, red, tan, and green. In this version of CytoThane, the base-coat is water-based. The top-coat is shipped dry with solvent added at the application site. Surface temperatures should be between 32 and 95°F during spray application. One gallon (X2) covers 200 to 400 square feet.
CytoThane-ME is a fast drying version of CytoThane-MW. This super-hydrophobic coating is used on anemometers and radiometric sensors. CytoThane-ME provides over 140° water contact angle performance. CytoThane-ME is a single-part, air-cured coating formulated for spray application. The coating is rain resistant after 2 hours and is fully cured in 10 days. Surface temperatures should be between 32 and 95°F for proper application. One gallon covers 200 to 400 square feet.
WX2100 is an aerosol can version of CytoThane MW. This super-hydrophobic coating is commonly used on marine and ground-based microwave antenna, radomes and other telecommunications gear. WX2100 provides over 140° water contact angle performance in extreme sun and rain. Side by side tests between coated and uncoated DirecTV antennas demonstrate 15-20% difference in signal strength during heavy rain ( i.e., when signal from uncoated dish drops out at 45%, the coated dish maintains operation at 60-65%). WX2100 also reduces snow and ice accumulation under most conditions. WX2100 is a single-part, air-cured coating. The coating is rain resistant after 2 hours, substantially cured in 24 hours and is fully cured in 5 to 10 days. Surface temperatures should be between 32 and 95°F during spray application. One can covers 10 - 15 square feet.
